Conference With Architect Jaime Lerner From Brazil. Jaime Lerner was deeply involved in the redesign of his hometown Curitibas. He helped to reduce traffic in the center and conserve the historic parts of town. Lerner closed one of the principal roads and integrated a new road design. In 1996 Curitiba was awarded the most innovative Town at the congress of city planers.
In 1990 he received a price from the United Nations for his efforts in collecting and recycling of garbage.
Jaime Lerner is president of the UIA (International Union of Architects) and was involved in the city design of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador, Shangai, Caracas, Havana and Seoul. Three times he was mayor of Curitiba and two times the governor of the north Brazilian state Parana.
