The first competition of the Costa Rican Open Water Swimming Championship will take place at Playa Herradura.

Participants will compete in various age categories and distances.

The championship consists of 4 events, with the best 3 results counting toward the final standings.
Distances: 1,500 meters, 3,000 meters, and 5,000 meters.

Open water swimming is an exciting discipline that takes place in oceans, lakes, and rivers, rather than in pools.

Unlike pool swimming, open water events require athletes to sight landmarks for navigation and often involve mass starts where swimmers must position themselves strategically. The sport has grown significantly in popularity and became an Olympic discipline in 2008, with the 10 kilometer marathon swim being the featured distance.
