Open water swimming is an exhilarating discipline that occurs in natural aquatic environments like oceans and lakes, rather than traditional swimming pools.
Unlike conventional pool swimming, open water competitions require swimmers to use visible landmarks for directional guidance and generally begin with mass starts where participants must strategically position themselves within the field. This sport has witnessed remarkable growth in popularity over recent years and earned Olympic recognition in 2008, with the 10 kilometer marathon swim representing its flagship distance.
